Urgent Care

What to do When You Need Immediate Care

Day or night, your first call should always be to your Privia doctor.

To reach your doctor, call the main office line at 202.244.0812. If you have an urgent medical issue or concern outside of normal business hours and are unable to reach your doctor through the main office line, please call the after-hours support line at (877) 977-4842 to speak directly with a member of our nurse team.

Your Privia Provider

MAKE AN APPOINTMENT

With access to your health history and an understanding of your individual needs, your doctor can give you advice over the phone to guide your next steps.

Those next steps could be:

  • A same-day or next-day appointment in the office
  • A referral to a specialist or other Privia doctor
  • A visit to an urgent care facility or, if it is a life-threatening emergency, a visit to the emergency department

Immediate Care

Urgent care facilities are a more convenient and cost-effective alternative to the emergency department. Scroll down to see a list of urgent care centers.

Emergency Department

The emergency department is meant for the following:

  • Life-threatening situations
  • Serious and sudden medical conditions
  • Trauma

If you or a loved one is experiencing a life-threatening emergency, call 9-1-1 or find safe transportation to the emergency department near you.

Comparing Urgent Care and the Emergency Department
Time: Urgent care visits average 30 minutes vs. 2 hours, 30 minutes for the Emergency Department
Cost: Urgent care visits average $100 - $150 vs. $1,389 at the emergency department.

For patients with insurance, a copayment will almost always be higher for emergency department visits than for urgent care visits.

Remember to follow up with your primary care provider after any changes to your health or seeing another doctor.

When the unexpected happens, your doctor and Privia can help you know what to expect, who to call, and where to go to receive the highest quality of care.

We encourage you to seek care at Privia Immediate Care Centers. Providers at Privia Immediate Care Centers have access to a patient’s complete medical history, can offer same day care, and are able to refer a patient to another Privia provider if necessary. These are designated in the list below with a Privia logo.

If a Privia Immediate Care Center is not open or convenient to you, we encourage you to seek care at any of the other preferred immediate care facilities listed without the Privia logo.
